Sotheby's Auction: From a [Fabulous] Parisian Flat, Avenue Montaigne

I hope your Monday has started well!I received one of my periodic e-mails from Sotheby's the other day. Up for auction are the contents of this Parisian flat! Fascinating. I think it's a magnificent pied-a-terre...
It's filled with so many very personal collections. I wonder why the owner is parting with so much? This is how Sotheby's describes the auction:
"An eclectic collection, resulting from the variety of experiences and influences that the owner has encountered throughout her life. Travelling the world, visiting museums, galleries, monuments, archaeological sites and gardens, her curiosity has always guided her to explore new art forms and collecting fields.
"She decided to set up one of her homes in Paris and over the years has built a collection in the classical setting of her apartment on the Avenue Montaigne. This proved an ideal space to house her expanding photograph collection, as well as furniture, Asian art, silver and decorative arts."
I had a lot of fun browsing the offerings here.
All photos are from Sotheby's e-catalogue.

Georgetown Loop

We rode the train last week! And we tried to tour the 1870s silver mine. But, after about 50 steps into the very dark, very small, damp, cold tunnel, neither the four-year-old nor his claustrophobic mother needed to venture any further. Loved the train, though!

Emma Kunz

Have you seen the work of Emma Kunz? What a genius.
She described her art as follows: "Shape and form expressed as measurement, rhythm, symbol and transformation of figure and principle."

Happy Tuesday! Shown here are a few of the many objects and furniture pieces calling to me from Treadway Gallery's upcoming Auction of 20th Century Art and Design...
If you haven't been reading my blog for a long time, you probably have not seen a post about auctions of objects or furniture, but I browse these as often as I do the art auctions. It's a fun way for me to learn about design.

Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House

It is one of the true gems along the hiking trail...
Many things are especially tasty after hiking up a mountain for a few miles, but fresh-from-the-oven scones and steaming gourmet tea, in this particular setting, are so SO yummy. In 1927, two Swiss brothers built the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House, which can only be reached by hiking up the trail of the same name, as a resting point along the route to a back country hut. It is now lovingly cared for by the daughter of the couple who bought it in 1959; the family and staff just held their 50th anniversary celebration. I think this stop, including our little chat with the very cool woman who was raised here and keeps it in her family, was one of my favorite memories from our trip.

Chateau Lamp

This is fun...

Anthropologie's Chateau Lamp. It's so whimsical - I think I could look at it for hours. Thanks go to sweet Megan for the link to elephantine who featured this lovely lamp.

Mountains

The Rockies in Banff and Yoho Parks seem more rugged, with steeper faces, than those near us in Colorado. On our hikes, we were treated to fantastic views in all directions. In the first and third pictures, you can see pieces of trails we hiked.
