Doug and I woke up at 3:45am to be at the trailhead at 6. We wanted to be up and down the mountain before any bad weather, in case any thunder clouds were to roll in in the afternoon. We could clearly see our first goal, Mt. Democrat, in front of us...
We hiked for three hours up the valley and then the side of the mountain to the summit. The views were marvelous the whole way and especially at the top...
After a lovely half hour alone on Democrat's peak, we made our way over to neighboring Mt. Lincoln. It's good to be able to summit two 14ers in one day...
We saw only a handful of other hikers. This guy was my favorite, in his coolie hat and his five-finger shoes. Clearly a natural...
I hadn't hiked to the summit of a 14,000 ft peak since 1999. It was just a great day and I feel so happy about our accomplishment! It's good to be out in such vast nature and feel very small. It puts many things into perspective. I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

Wow, I'm very impressed by you! Stunning scenery. Here we have something called "Ten summits a summer" which is basically about doing ten tops before September. I'm sure you would have liked it! Not for us this year, maybe next year.

So, so beautiful and makes me miss my 14ers! Democrat was one of the last ones I climbed before leaving Vail. Your photos are beautiful - there's a lot more snow up there than when I went!!
