Heading to the Beach

We're heading to Denver this afternoon to make an early morning flight to South Carolina. We'll be visiting my dad and his wife in Beaufort and here ... Dewees is where my mother and father lived until she died almost seven years ago. They moved there to be its first full-time residents in 1994, when my dad retired from his NYC work. It's a very special place... we talk about being green now (thankfully); they were living it every day on this island that is dedicated to environmental preservation. I'm excited for my son to experience it. And, boy, do we need some nice weather! I hope you have a beautiful week, and I'll see you again next Monday.

Weekend Auctions

Happy Friday! From the fun auctions happening this weekend, I've found my favorites... I would be thrilled to have any of these in my home or (as in the case of the necklace ;)) on me. I think I might follow along live to see how much these sell for. Today is the Palm Beach Modern Auction, where they are auctioning the amazing sterling Art Smith necklace from the '50s and the pair of Willy Guhl planters. Saturday is day one of the Rago auction of 20th and 21st century decorative arts where they'll offer, among many other beautiful items, the Glen Lukens blue bowl. Sunday is day two of Rago, where they'll have the Serge Mouille lamp, the John Follis planter, the Gio Ponti vanity, the Calder "Balloons" lithograph, and the Kay Bojesen animals and monkey.
Thank you so much for visiting me here this week. I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

Kitchen Banquette

Hello! So, we've been in our home for over seven years, meaning it's time to do some work. Our kitchen is ideally suited to having a built-in seating area, so one of our projects will be a banquette. I've been looking for inspiration so I can show my husband what I envision. This is what I've found after a quick search.
The shape of the second bench is what I imagine, but it will probably be glossy white, painted plywood. I will put a bright cushion cover across the seat, with throw cushions for the back. I don't like the vinyl, but I do like the white and bright mix of the fourth photo, and our table is similar to that table. And I'm not really a red person, but the two red banquettes look so cheery to me. I do like the stripes and the natural wood in the third photo. The last photo is a bad scan, but I had to include it because I've been looking for that photo in my old magazines for two days, and I finally found it! I remembered the tulip base with the square top, the banquette, and the whiteness of it. Also inspirational. Our walls are white, cabinets a light natural color, and our countertops almost black. I've only put together one mood board in my life, but maybe I'll make one for this to get my ideas solidified. Thoughts??

Can Anyone Source This?

I love the print in this image. "You Are My Sunshine" has a lot of meaning for me. Does anyone know where one can purchase it? Thanks for helping!

Corner View: Earth Day

Happy Wednesday! Today's Corner View topic is Earth Day. Yesterday, my son worked on this Earth Day project at the library. We will put a new leaf on the tree he made every time we do something good for the Earth...So far, we have four leaves: for taking our own tote to the library for new books, for the recycling we did yesterday, and for picking up trash on our hike (we earned two leaves for that... one for Eddie and one for mom and dad) For all the other Earth Day Corner Views, begin at Joyce's beautiful A Perfect Beginning. Happy Earth Day!
and p.s. ... it's been a busy week around here. I do have a few things I want to show you, though, before the weekend, so I will be back with a few posts. I hope you are having a great week!

Happy Friday - More Bookcases

It's Friday again... can you believe it? This week went fast! I've been looking for inspiration for our bookshelves lately. I've seen so many I like, I wanted to collect them here in a post...We just did a mini declutter, mostly cleaning up the bookshelves... step one. We' re thrifting books neither of us liked that were still on the shelves. I think I was keeping them just to have books. We don't have that kind of space...and, really, who needs things you don't like in your home. So, step two will be making the shelves look prettier. I think I'm aiming for something like 3 or 7, but I also love #1. I'll go back to my earlier bookcase post, too. Hopefully I'll be brave enough to show you the results!

dutzi design inc.

The story of Ariane Dutzi, her team of mostly Mayan women artisans, and the bags they create is beautifully told here. Please go read it. For every reason, I want one of these bags ...dutzi design inc.'s temporary website is here, and you can find dutzi on facebook here. Hmmmm, I think the bottom bag, with the E-51 is my favorite. Any thoughts on yours?

Update: Ariane Dutzi contacted me to let me know we can order dutzi bags directly from dutzi by e-mailing to: info@dutzidesign.com. Ariane will work with you from there since the bags are one-of-a-kind! I'll show you my bag when it arrives!

Corner View: One Year Anniversary

Happy Wednesday... corner view day! Today is corner view's one-year anniversary and the task is to repost our favorite theme from the past year. First, I must thank lovely Jane. I've found so many truly, truly beautiful bloggers across the world thanks to this weekly project. So, here was my favorite, my first one, from last July...This week, I'm playing along with corner view! Today's theme is where I go to reflect. This is an easy one for me... any trail. Get me on a run or a hike (or a snowshoe in snowier months) and I'm reflecting. My backyard is also a very peaceful place for me on a Summer's eve...And, look! I'm reflecting in the back of this MG's mirror...
Please have a look at all the beautiful corner views by stopping first at Jane's place.

ps. i think it's my fave because i can't wait for my yard to bloom like that again!

Apples

Happy Monday... a bit late! I hope your weekend was fun, and that you've made it through the beginning of the week in tact. I'm stopping in quickly to tell you I like these apples...They jumped out at me this weekend. I especially like the cast iron pot, which I'd leave out on the stove for a great pop of color.
