Hello! May was very busy, in a good way. June came quickly and we're trying to catch up. The garden is a little unkempt, but I like it...

I hope all of you are well - I haven't been able to visit much. We're off to enjoy the outdoors. I will be back soon!

Today I Went to the Eye Doctor

for the first time in 24 years! And my eyes are perfect. Yay. Except part of me would like glasses. I do need sunglasses, so I had some fun looking through the pairs on 1st Dibs.

I think the aviators are great, and I love all the vintage Puccis. They're all sold, but give me ideas. I don't think I could wear the Chanels, but I still wanted to put them here. I saw the last pair at a Leslie Hindmann auction not long ago. Love them too. Happy Tuesday!

Coyote

Happy Tuesday! This beautiful coyote visited our yard this morning.

We hear the coyotes at night in the summer, but rarely see them. Especially in the neighborhood. He certainly was a healthy, fine one. I hope you are having a great day!

Eddie does not like homework. But yesterday there were only a few complaints. Perhaps the milk helped.

Dwell on Lego

Well, happy Friday! Filed under the category "How Did I Miss This?" Dwell recently held a contest: Construct a model of an original mid-century modern home inspired by iconic California mid-century modern architecture...The MoMo home is by far my favorite. Since we didn't even know enough to submit an entry (which would have been killer for sure), I hope MoMo is one of the top five chosen to to be on display at this year’s Dwell on Design, June 22-24, where a panel of judges will choose the grand prize winner live from the show floor. Fun!

Kickstarter: Lille Huset

Hi all. Happy Thursday. Do you know of Kickstarter? It's a site connecting artists with financial backers for their potential, creative projects. I just backed Alyson Beaton's Lille Huset. She's looking to kick start her business creating modular dollhouses. I think her work is very cool, so I invested a little bit, and I receive a sweet bike and mini dollhouse for my donation... I'm pretty sure they'll be a hit -- Eddie will use the house with his Lego guys and we'll all fight over the bike. I love Kickstarter. It's how Minka came to be, and was also how Laura Brown, one of my favorite printmakers, funded some of her work. Check it out.

Hemingway and all

Hi. Well, that was an awful weekend. Sickness, irritability, bad weather... oooof. OK, done with the rant. I hope yours was much better! I did read two wonderful (though disturbing and morbid) Hemingway stories. I'd have read more, but these needed to sink in a bit. He tells a great story. The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber meant a whole lot more this time around (read it 20+ years ago??). I also finished the The Capital of the World. Marvelous but very sad. I highly recommend a Hemingway fix every once in a while. I'll be with him for a while, with forty seven more stories to read in the volume we had hanging around.
Since Hemingway's on my mind and he loved the bull fights, I smiled when I saw this sweet little painting by William Posey Silva... Reminds me of Hemingway. To be auctioned tomorrow at John Moran.

Cowan's "American Indian Art"

Happy Thursday. We've been busy and my boy is under the weather, so not much blogging! I did browse a bit yesterday, and saw these Native American pieces to be auctioned today at Cowan's. The beadwork, weaving, sewing and carving are wonderful. But while gazing at these pieces is exciting, I do not like seeing these at auction. The loss they represent is too depressing and discouraging to get into here; suffice it to say I wish they could go back to their people.
A Northern Plains beaded and quilled token pouch, a pair of Cree beaded high-top moccasins, three Paiute beaded baskets, an Eskimo carved wooden seal rattle, an Attu Eskimo lidded basket, and a pair of Sioux beaded hide moccasins.
