Pretty Nantucket Home

Hello! My weekend away was in Boston, where I attended a beautiful memorial service for my sister's father-in-law. I was very happy to be there to honor a good man and spend time with my sister, her husband and his family. Another of my sisters, my father and his wife were there, too, so I saw lots of my people! I didn't have a chance to visit the ocean this time, but I dreamed of it as I looked at this Nantucket beauty in New England Home, which I bought to browse during the trip...There's something about a New England beach home... the shingles, the soft light, the history (the antiques!), the easy life... that you have to love. This one is no exception. Read more about it here.

1st Dibs this Week

Just a few I love on 1st Dibs today...I'm going out of town tomorrow until Monday. I hope the rest of your week and your weekend are beautiful!

chairs, lamp, lamps (click for other great photos of them, too)

Daisies

Lauren of the lovely Pure Style Home inspired me to run out and cut some daisies from the garden. They really do brighten up the table! So easy to do, too. Thanks for the little nudge, Lauren

Thinking about Ginger Jars

I saw this room a few months ago in House Beautiful. Though I'm not sure I love the pedestal display idea, the ginger jars definitely caught my eye...This image is about 1/16 the size of the actual magazine spread, so I'm going to go scan the page so you can see the one jar that really piqued my interest...........OK, I'm back (bad scan, but...)...That's the one! I love the shape and the delicate blue swirls. I haven't found the perfect available one yet, but the search is fun. Some of these are awfully nice...
and they'd complement the perfect one, right?

Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake

Happy Monday! We've been enjoying the books of Roald Dahl around here: first James and the Giant Peach and now Danny the Champion of the World. All three of us move eagerly through the evening routine, anticipating reading the next chapter or two or three or four(!) before bed. We sneak some during the day, too. The stories are fun, suspenseful and funny. Eddie is learning to conjure the characters and events in his mind, a new phenomenon for a five-year-old making the move from picture books to chapter books. These particular editions, though, have scattered illustrations by Quentin Blake to help us. His little pictures perfectly complement the words, and we are charmed by them. Here are some drawings found on his website for your Monday...

Beautiful Weekend

We've been so busy! I'm sorry I haven't been here or visiting my favorite blogs. I expect this will change at the end of the month when Eddie's off to kindergarten. I did find some fun, diverse auction items I want to show you...I think I love the lithograph of the Japanese women, the sweet birds watercolor, and the oil cans the most. The auctions are here, here, here and here throughout the coming week. I hope you have a beautiful August weekend!

More Fun Finds for E's Dorm Room

Hi! Happy Tuesday. During my search for pieces for my niece's prep school dorm room (my inspiration boards are in last week's posts), I came across so many fun items for a teenage girl! I think any of these would be great in a black and white (with a bit of color) themed room...And, honestly, I really want most of these for myself.
Top row: Ferm knit pouf (comes in black!), Safari rug, felt cushions. Second row: Klippan bubbles blanket and retro blanket. Third row: zebra finch print, birds pillow, print. Fourth row: FUZ dusty chalk board, pillow, owl print. Fifth row: pillow, zebra pillow, Marie Antoinette bean bag. Sixth row: paper garlands, another Willow Baus sailboat (too cute in pink polka dots!), stars and stripes pillow.

Black and White Four for E

And here is the final inspiration board for my niece. I used this bedroom as a start, even though it's more gray and white with yellow accents than it is black and white. I just really wanted to work with this bedding! I love it. The bedroom is Angela Hardison's, as seen on Design Sponge. The bedding is DwellStudio, which I learned Thursday thanks to The SoHo, who magically posted about it as I was trying to prepare this board...Just a few finds here, maybe very sophisticated for a teenager, but if any teenager would like these, I think it would be my niece. Isn't the Queen pillow fun for a pop of color? I just may have to redo my bedroom to incorporate these.
Find them here: desk organizers, DwellStudio Draper Stripe Ash duvet set, Queen Ten pillow by Karen Hilton Designs on etsy, letter blocks by Countryside Sayings on etsy, lacquer lamps at Lotus Bleu, dancers drawing by Jose Lampreia on etsy, chalk globe, and CB2 paperclip table.
That's my last black and white board for my niece, but I think I'll be posting a few more random finds that are too sweet to resist. Have fun, sister, choosing a few perfect things for her. I hope she has the most beautiful room in the dorm!

Moose!

I wanted to show you what my husband and I saw during our hike on Friday...A huge moose. So beautiful. I hope you are having a fantastic weekend!
