This fiber artwork was given to me by a good friend for my birthday this year. I love it. It hangs on my wall where I look at it in wonder every day. Today, I went to her home with my sewing machine and she taught me the first few steps. We had so much fun. I'm really excited to learn how to create these and develop my own style.
They studied Jackson Pollock and Alexander Calder among others. I love what he created.

We've had the bookcases, the table and chair, the posters and the soft storage baskets for a while, so I'm incorporating those. I think this looks quite boring and I'm tempted to add some color, but I know what happens to even the nicest of calm, neutral, or white spaces when the reality of a five-year-old with his (or her) stuff moves in...
Stuff everywhere...every surface covered! This is not to say I don't love these, but there are belongings to deal with - lots of them. Add a wall of bookshelves...
and maybe you can see why I'm staying away from color in furniture or rugs: it's too much for the eyes.

Eddie is home this week, the time between school and Summer camp. I think his favorite place in the whole world is home. It is often hard to pull him from this house, as it was this morning. Here he is making kaleidoscopes. His dad, who was also making kaleidoscopes, has just left the kitchen to prepare for a meeting. I am sitting at my computer, not far away. On the sill behind Eddie are earlier creations... a play-doh car, and some penguins, sharks and ducks. There are also airplanes made from popsicle sticks and colored masking tape. It's a sunny, warm day, and we will go outside, but for now there is creating at the kitchen table.

The shape of the second bench is what I imagine, but it will probably be glossy white, painted plywood. I will put a bright cushion cover across the seat, with throw cushions for the back. I don't like the vinyl, but I do like the white and bright mix of the fourth photo, and our table is similar to that table. And I'm not really a red person, but the two red banquettes look so cheery to me. I do like the stripes and the natural wood in the third photo. The last photo is a bad scan, but I had to include it because I've been looking for that photo in my old magazines for two days, and I finally found it! I remembered the tulip base with the square top, the banquette, and the whiteness of it. Also inspirational. Our walls are white, cabinets a light natural color, and our countertops almost black. I've only put together one mood board in my life, but maybe I'll make one for this to get my ideas solidified. Thoughts??
So far, we have four leaves: for taking our own tote to the library for new books, for the recycling we did yesterday, and for picking up trash on our hike (we earned two leaves for that... one for Eddie and one for mom and dad) For all the other Earth Day Corner Views, begin at Joyce's beautiful A Perfect Beginning.
