Thunder Storm

There is a storm coming through. I love thunder storms...
and we need the rain. I hope you are well! I am. And I have a new modem (thank you Mark and Julia). I hope my posts, and my visits to my favorite blogs, will be more frequent now!

Hello...

Hello? Is anyone there?!??! I feel so out of touch! But my new modem is here, ready for set up. That should be fun. Turns out a 10-year-old modem can be fickle. I think this painting pretty much sums up how I feel. Joseph Czapski

Happy Mother's Day

I hope you have a lovely day! You deserve it. I'm missing this beautiful person today. Now that I have a little one of my own, I appreciate (and am awed by) everything she did for me and my four sisters more than she will ever know. Love you, Mom...My mother, 1990 on St. Kitts.

Together

I like these two together...

The first is a photograph by the extremely talented Edina van der Wyck from her travel portfolio, and the second is a watercolor by Emil Nolde, Marsh Landscape Near Utenwarf (Green and Blue) (being auctioned at Doyle on May 19th).

And have a beautiful weekend. Happy Mother's Day to you!

Pennies For Peace

My little guy made me smile yesterday evening. He came home from his beautiful Montessori school, where they've been reading Listen to the Wind and polishing pennies, and asked me how to spell Greg. Then he asked me how to spell Mortenson. The result was this...
I really hope you can read it. My little 4 and 1/4-year-old wants to send this to Greg Mortenson, the man behind the Central Asia Institute and its effort to construct community based schools for underserved youth (primarily girls) in Pakistan and Afghanistan. As the Central Asia Institute says, "the best hope for a peaceful and prosperous world lies in the education of all the world’s children." To educate myself, I've recently read Three Cups of Tea, the story of his efforts and successes. Eddie's Montessori is participating in the Pennies for Peace program, through which school children in the U.S. learn about making a positive impact on a global scale and contribute to the Central Asia Institute's cause.
Eddie would like me to send his note to Dr. Greg, so I will... along with a contribution.

Good Weekend

We spent a lovely, if chilly and rainy, weekend in Denver. The zoo was pleasantly quiet because of the weather. We thought these goslings were pretty cute.
(I bought a new computer on the way home, and I am happy to report it's now up and working fine.)

Lilacs

These lilac blossoms inspired me today...They led me to find other examples of their uplifting (and soothing) color. I feel good when I look at these images below, too...

Internet Issues

I'm having some connection issues, which are making it difficult to post! Hopefully it's an easy fix and I'll be back to full strength soon!

Moving to Sweden?

Hmmm... these lovely apartments in Goteborg and Stockholm look good to me! I've been browsing this site, dreaming about a Scandinavian pied-a-terre. And if I ever sell my home, I hope my broker works this hard for me!

Needing an Escape

We had snow this weekend. AAAAAAAAAAKKKK! Since I'm not actually going to the beach anytime soon, I dreamt with one of my favorite coffee table books. I'd say yes to the Moroccan coast...
or this Mexican hideaway, thank you!
