Serious Peas in a Pod
These two love cars. I'm not kidding. LOVE them. Even (especially?) the remote-control kind. Today, they could not have been happier...
Happy Weekend
I hope you are having a beautiful weekend. I'm lingering at our breakfast table, taking in the garden as it begins to bloom.

End of May Apple Blossoms
I know these are so done where you are, but here at 7500 feet they are blooming right now! Every year I look forward to these few days when the trees burst with color. This year I took a few photos...

Architect Barbara Bestor
I wish I could show these bigger, because I love all these photos of architect Barbara Bestor's work. Her use of raw materials and the pops of bold color definitely appeal to me. 1st Dibs has a beautiful article (with big images) about her here. Please go take a look!

Sommarnojen
Remodelista featured Sommarnojen yesterday, a Swedish architectural group designing compact, prefab beach houses. I clicked over to their site and I'm happy to report there is some Heaven there! Sweet, modern little cabins "built by hand using local and sustainable materials"(as reported by Remodelista because I regrettably don't read Swedish). Above is the TVH2 sitting in a bucolic spot, perfect for a Summer weekend...or month.
Yes, I could wake up here...I believe you can also ask these architects to create a custom home, like this. OK, thank you.Could we put it here? With all the beautiful images of Summer homes on Sommarnojen, though, this is my favorite... a sweet little cabin for a crisp Winter weekend. I think it's perfect.

Sotheby's Important 20th Century Design
On June 12th, Sotheby's will hold an Important 20th Century Design auction. I've found the pieces I like. These four could set me back at least $77,000...and this one, a mere $150,000. But it's so cool!
Andre Dubreuil Spine Chairs, Claude Conover Kaknab stoneware, Jean Prouve Antony Chair, Donald Colflesh Circa '70 Tea Service, and Shiro Kuramata Miss Blanche Chair. See details here.

Lovely Long Weekend
Happy Memorial Day! We had a lovely long weekend in Denver. We had no plans, so it was very relaxed. Here are a few pictures of our Sunday hike (while the storm was brewing) and few of downtown (during and after the tornado warning).

We Saved a Baby Robin
We're in Denver this weekend. Doug and Eddie found this little guy perched on a wall near Riverfront Park. I watched him for about 15 minutes, then decided we needed to do something. The wall is in the middle of a field of concrete, with only very small trees nearby. We couldn't figure out where he came from. He was chirping, but no parents answered and no parent dive-bombed me when I (carefully) approached. After a series of five phone calls, each leading us to the next potential savior, we were directed to Wild BIRD Rehabilitation. Amazing. I sent Doug and Eddie back to our place for a box and a soft towel or two. All this took at least 45 minutes. And the robin had certainly been there a while already, judging from the poop! Luckily he was perfectly camouflaged, so he didn't attract much attention -- many people and dogs passed without noticing. I put a dish towel over him (he flapped furiously), put him in the box (he chirped) and we drove him to this terrific place (flapping and chirping). He's not injured, but not old enough to fly (no tail yet). They said, because he was in danger from dogs, people and cars, and because there was no parent nearby, we did the right thing. He'll be good to go as soon as his tail grows a bit. There are two or three other baby robins there, in the same situation, to keep him company. I'm so excited we found Wild BIRD.

Weekend
This lithograph by Helen Frankenthaler makes me think of moonlight over the ocean, a lovely Summer weekend image if you ask me. I hope your weekend is restful... and all you'd like it to be. Yellow Jack, Helen Frankenthaler (at auction in NY, June 4)

Stairways to Heaven
I could live with any of these stairways. I'm not sure I'd live very long, but I love them anyway!images via Purple Area, Richard Powers, Automatism (Domino Deco Files), Remodelista, Marie Claire Maison

If This Weren't So Creepy...
I'd love it. But, I'm sorry, anything that even slightly suggests Hitchcock's The Birds will NEVER be in my home! What do you think? To be even more creeped out, click here and mouse over the image. AAAKK!
