We Saved a Baby Robin

We're in Denver this weekend. Doug and Eddie found this little guy perched on a wall near Riverfront Park. I watched him for about 15 minutes, then decided we needed to do something. The wall is in the middle of a field of concrete, with only very small trees nearby. We couldn't figure out where he came from. He was chirping, but no parents answered and no parent dive-bombed me when I (carefully) approached. After a series of five phone calls, each leading us to the next potential savior, we were directed to Wild BIRD Rehabilitation. Amazing. I sent Doug and Eddie back to our place for a box and a soft towel or two. All this took at least 45 minutes. And the robin had certainly been there a while already, judging from the poop! Luckily he was perfectly camouflaged, so he didn't attract much attention -- many people and dogs passed without noticing. I put a dish towel over him (he flapped furiously), put him in the box (he chirped) and we drove him to this terrific place (flapping and chirping). He's not injured, but not old enough to fly (no tail yet). They said, because he was in danger from dogs, people and cars, and because there was no parent nearby, we did the right thing. He'll be good to go as soon as his tail grows a bit. There are two or three other baby robins there, in the same situation, to keep him company. I'm so excited we found Wild BIRD.
