Happy New Year!

All good wishes to you for the New Year! I'm off until next week. We'll be visiting with Grandma and Grandpa in Albuquerque for the rest of the holidays. I am so looking forward to 2009 and all the promise it holds!

web cam (!) photo from phq at Beaver Creek this afternoon!

Papa Stour

This is a little different for me, but I found a beautiful shop today called Papa Stour. You probably know of it already, but it's new to me and I like it so I want to share it. The entirely Scottish collection is put together by designer and stylist Rosie Brown. "The artists and makers come from all over Scotland, do completely different things but have one common thread, dedication and talent." Here are some of their creations...

Bone china cylinders (and I'm so drawn to the cherry blossoms, too... this photo got me started. I'm definitely in a soft white and cherry blossom mood today).

FREEZING!!

We skied this morning. I'm glad I still have my face. So fun, but SO COLD!!! And, no, this isn't my picture... it's one of the web cams at Beaver Creek. My fingers would have frozen if I'd tried to take pictures. So much fun, though.

Snow, Snow, Snow!

Sunday we woke up to a lot of fresh snow. Bliss... my version of the pretty shoe photo...It's still snowing today, and I couldn't resist going out for a snowshoe on the trail... And here we are tonight...
Peaceful.

Whoa...Where'd That Week Go??!!

I can't believe I haven't written since last Monday... the week flew by. Eddie and I went sledding almost every day; I found, wrapped and sent some gifts; sent the cards; we decorated the tree; had a nice visit from Doug's brother and sister-in-law; went to the Dummy Gelunde contest in Vail Saturday (see below); and woke up to about a foot of snow yesterday! Here's our tree, which we found in the forest, and some of our favorite ornaments, which were Doug's family's, and thankfully came to us...
The Dummy Gelunde contest is goofy... contestants create dummy laden structures to send down a ski jump. The winner is the entry with the best combination of creativity, speed, flight and complete destruction upon crashing. Some of this year's entries included Santa on a sleigh, a Nasdaq machine, Dick Cheney driving a motorcycle, and a car representing the Big 3. First they have to haul them up...
Then they let 'em fly...Santa won. Beautiful flight...complete carnage. The bobsledder on the recliner was impressive, too.
Soon, I will show you our new snow! We have a lot!

If You're Anywhere Near York Ave. and 72nd...

If you are in New York next week, you must pop into Sotheby's. Seriously. You should check out the pre-auction exhibitions for these two events: Important Tiffany and Important 20th Century Design. There are some amazing pieces. Both auctions are on December 18th, and their exhibitions are open to the public from the 13th through the 17th. How much fun would it be to see these up close and in person, especially knowing that you may never see them again...

Charlie Brown Would Love This

Well, we found our own Christmas tree in the forest. I was picturing something sparse, but with long, delicate branches at least. Like something out of a Sundance catalogue, maybe, or like the lovelies above. What we got was tall and skinny and a little curvy in the trunk (I'm calling her our runway model). We were in pretty high spirits for the first 15 minutes or so, then mr. contrary kicked in. But, ask a 3 1/2-year-old to hike on snow shoes in two-plus feet of snow at 11,000 feet and maybe you're setting yourself up. So we cajoled, took out the Christmas cookies, found a tree and cut it quick. By the time we were sawing, photos were a low priority...I have none of us with the tree! It was truly beautiful up there. Husband and I will have to go for a longer trek sometime soon. When our svelte beauty (c. brown really would love it) is decked out a bit, I'll post some photos. Until then, here is our quest...

Tomorrow

Tomorrow we head out into the forest to cut our own Christmas tree. We're hoping for big things!

edit: Aahhh! forgot! photo on the left is by Lida Rose.

This Arrived Today

I first saw Cori Kindred's work just a few weeks ago, having been led to her by abby try again. She has a beautiful way with the polaroid, and I particularly liked this print. It arrived today, it's just as lovely in person, and I'm very happy to have it.
