Many things are especially tasty after hiking up a mountain for a few miles, but fresh-from-the-oven scones and steaming gourmet tea, in this particular setting, are so SO yummy. In 1927, two Swiss brothers built the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House, which can only be reached by hiking up the trail of the same name, as a resting point along the route to a back country hut. It is now lovingly cared for by the daughter of the couple who bought it in 1959; the family and staff just held their 50th anniversary celebration. I think this stop, including our little chat with the very cool woman who was raised here and keeps it in her family, was one of my favorite memories from our trip.

this is sooooo cool, and i keep agreeing--your photos are great! but how do you think they get things there? how do they get their flour for the scones?
Hi Laura! She (the lovely proprietor) said they bring everything up at the beginning of the season, I think on horses. Which reminds me that horses go as far as the tea house, but not further on the trail. And they are currently making a second trail for the horses to preserve the hiking trail.
